PIAZZA MAGGIORE. It has always been at the heart of city’s life since Roman times as you can see from the recent discoveries unearthed from the former  stock -exchange hall .   
  
KING ENZO’ S PALACE. A romanesque building dated back to 1244  used as a prison for the son of the emperor Frederich the second.

PALAZZO D’ ACCURSIO. A medieval fortress  now used as the TOWN HALL.

NEPTUNE  FOUNTAIN .A masterpiece of the Flemish sculptor Jean Boulogne (Gianbologna)

HALL  OF THE NOTARIES. The former seat of the Notaries’ Guild.

BASILICA OF St. PETRONIO. The most belated   gothic church in Europe with a famous sundial.

PALAZZO DEL PODESTA’. A 15th century building with an important renaissance facade.

THE ARCHIGINNASIO. The first permanent seat amongf the most ancient Universities in Europe with a famous anatomical theatre
MEDIEVAL  MARKET. A walk along the narrow streets of one of the most picturesque market.

THE TWO TOWERS. Built in the 12th century as a status symbol of  the most important bolognese families.

PALAZZO DELLA MERCANZIA. [Merchants’ Hall] A beautiful example of the flourishing gothic style.

PORTICOES. A ribbon of more than 35 kilometres of columns which goes  all along the  town.

BASILICA DI SANTO STEFANO . One of the most amazing romanesque complexes built as a reproduction of “ Santa Gerusalemme”.

THE JEWISH GHETTO. A mesh*of narrow streets where Jewish people lived during the 16th century.

THE CHURCH OF SAN DOMENICO. An important Domenican church with a magnificent ark built in various stages between the13th and 18th  century,  with statues by Nicolò dell’ Arca and Michelangelo.

THE CHURCH OF S. GIACOMO and THE ORATORY OF S. CECILIA.  The highest examples of the Renaissance painting in Bologna.

BASILICA DELLA MADONNA DI S. LUCA. A baroque church built on  top of a hill, with a holy image of Madonna .

PALAZZO PEPOLI CAMPOGRANDE. A palace with baroque frescoes, residence of an important  family of Bologna.

THE CIVIC  ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. .A rich etruscan and villanovian collection with plenty of greek vases found in the local tombs. An interesting Egyptian and Ran collection.

NATIONAL GALLERY. An excellent selection representing the history of Bologna art (Vitale da Bologna,the Carraccis, Guido Reni, Guercino)

CIVIC MUSEUM OF MEDIEVAL AND REINESSANCE ART. An original ensemble of sculpted tombs of  University professors.

THE MUNICIPAL ART COLLECTIONS. The ancient and vast apartment of Cardinal legate which houses a rich collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture.         

THE MORANDI  MUSEUM. More than 200 works of art by Bolognese painter Giorgio Morandi  (1890-1964)
